At the recent General Meeting members agreed the that the Bar Cellar and Bar Kitchen areas were run down and in need of urgent upgrade to improve efficiency and deliver appropriate levels of cleanliness and safety. The aim is for the Club to qualify for Cask Marque’s Award for the quality of our bar and cask ales.

As part of this process we have change our beer supplier to G and G Gallo of Braintree. We anticipate better value for money, more choice, a regular and more efficient dray service, and support in our cellar redevelopment.

Initially the range of beers and ciders remain unchanged apart from Kronenbourg 1664 replacing the Cinque Lager.

To demonstrate the great choice however 2 real ales from the Orkney Islands will available over the weekend.

The beers are Corncrake and Clootie Pudding and the details are below:



Straw gold ale with soft citrus fruits and gentle floral noted. Crisp hops perfectly balance the biscuit malt to provide a thirst quenching ale with apricot and peach flavours. Named after the elusive bird which nests near the brewery.

The Brewery is donating money from Corncrake cask sales to the RSPB to help reverse the plight of the Corncrake.





A light Tawny beer which has a soft rounded palate flavoured with seasonal spices.

A Clootie Dumpling a traditional Scottish dessert pudding made with flour, breadcrumbs, dried fruit, suet, sugar, and spice with some milk to bind it. Ingredients are mixed well into a dough, then wrapped up in a floured cloth, placed in a large pan of boiling water and simmered for a couple of hours before being lifted out and dried before the fire or in an oven. “Clootie dumpling” has also been used as a nickname for the logo of the Scottish National Party.
