Captain's Welcome

It is an honour to be the Veterans’ Captain of Wanstead Golf Club for 2019. I have been a member of this great golf club since 2000. For a golf lover there is nothing quite like being a member of a club, it’s about playing regular golf on a course you enjoy; but Wanstead Vets believe it is more than that, it’s about camaraderie and friendship, sharing a passion and having fun. My Vice Captain is Bob Skidmore and we look forward to having another great year of golf at Wanstead.
We have a thriving Vets section where members over the age of 55 can
enjoy good golfing, good company and a variety of competitions and matches.
The section meets every Wednesday and Friday mornings throughout the year and also Monday mornings during the summer. In the winter we meet on Mondays as a working party, carrying out work to help keep the course looking (and playing) its best.

We have 12 matches home and away each year against local clubs where friendly rivalries are renewed each year. After the golf there is a two course lunch to enjoy along with the company.
We also have our own competitions each year in a variety of formats; singles, foursomes and greensomes, stableford and matchplay. As always, the post golf socialising and banter is just as important as the on course test.
Two candlelit suppers held every year are the highlights of the Vets social calendar where a sumptuous four course meal is followed by entertainment and dancing.
